KEXP Reaches New Milestone
Friends, City Hall heard you!
With the help of your calls, emails and in-person support, the KEXP community accomplished a milestone toward building KEXP’s new home at Seattle Center.
On Monday, September 26, 2011 Seattle City Council voted to approve our lease agreement for the Northwest Rooms at Seattle Center. This is a major step toward making our new home a reality and a great leap forward for Seattle and her music…Our new home in the Northwest Rooms will provide a point of entry to music, discovery and connection unlike any place in the country. Your support is vital to the success of the KEXP community’s journey toward a new home at Seattle Center.
Stay tuned … In the coming months, KEXP will begin preliminary work on design and fundraising for the new home.
This also marks the culmination of a long and thoughtful process to redevelop property on the Seattle Center campus. We thank Mayor Mike McGinn and Councilmember Sally Bagshaw for their critical roles in helping us reach this milestone. Mayor McGinn and Councilmember Bagshaw were early and continual supporters of the vision. We also thank Seattle Center Director Robert Nellams and his committed and talented staff for partnering with KEXP to make this vision a reality. We are thankful for the support, encouragement and dedication to this project.
And we thank all of you – our donors, our volunteers, our listeners and this community of passionate music lovers and artists who we are here to serve.
With deep appreciation,
Tom Mara, KEXP Executive Director
